Update on COVID-19 Related Protocols | 2021-2022 School Year

Information for Parents and Guardians of Eureka City Schools

Dear Parent and Guardians,

This notice is an update to COVID protocols for Eureka City Schools.  Beginning March 14th, 2022 masking at school will still be strongly recommended, but no longer required, in all school settings, under most conditions (please see below).  This change in masking policy will also result in changes related to our quarantine procedures.  If there is a positive case of COVID-19 in your student’s classroom, you will receive an automated phone call informing you and asking that you and your student monitor for symptoms.

If your student does demonstrate symptoms, please keep your student home and arrange for a COVID test.

If your student tests positive for COVID, stay home for at least 5 days.
Isolation can end after day 5 and your student may return to school on day 6 if:

Symptoms are not present or are resolving; and

A COVID test collected on day 5 or later is negative.

If unable to test, choosing not to test, or testing positive on day 5, and no symptoms, isolation can end after day 10.
If fever is present, isolation should be continued until fever resolves for at least 24 hours without use of fever reducing medications.
If symptoms, other than fever, are not resolving continue to isolate until symptoms are resolving or until after day 10.
Wear a well-fitting mask around others for a total of 10 days, especially in indoor settings

If your student was exposed to COVID either in school or outside of school, please see Section B of the Humboldt County Office of Education Flow Chart linked below

Self-Screening Form:  We once again are asking that all students/parents and staff self-screen prior to coming to school.  Please utilize the appropriate self-screening form to help determine if your student can come to school.  There are new self-screening forms available on the webpage or by clicking here:

Quarantine Outside of School:  If a student does need to quarantine outside of school, there is the option of short-term independent study.  Short-term independent study runs through each school site, and will not require a transfer to the Center for Independent Study.  If your student has tested positive for COVID-19, or is not eligible for the modified quarantine procedure, please discuss with the school site about signing a (short-term) independent study contract.

COVID-19 Testing at School Sites: ECS is currently able to offer Antigen (rapid) and PCR (lab-based) COVID-19 tests for all students who were exposed to a positive case at school and who wish to, and are eligible to, participate in the modified quarantine procedure.  Guardian consent will be requested for all students prior to participating in COVID-19 testing and will be required for all students under the age of 13.  (Students 13 and older can consent themselves for COVID-19 testing.)
