Partnership with Lindsay Leads
Eureka City Schools Partnership with Lindsay Leads
Eureka City Schools (ECS) is committed to enhancing educational experiences by exploring innovative models. In this pursuit, ECS has partnered with Lindsay Unified School District (LUSD) and its "Lindsay Leads" initiative, which showcases the district’s Performance-Based System (PBS). This collaboration provides Eureka City Schools with opportunities to observe and adopt effective strategies from Lindsay's personalized learning approach, with the goal of improving student outcomes and fostering success for all learners.
Lindsay Unified School District, located in California's Central Valley, serves approximately 4,000 students, many of whom are English Language Learners or from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds (Public Policy Institute of California). In 2007, LUSD embarked on a district-wide transformation to address persistent challenges such as low proficiency rates in reading and math. This effort resulted in the creation of a Performance-Based System, which focuses on individualized instruction tailored to meet each learner’s needs (EdSurge).
The "Lindsay Leads" initiative was further strengthened in 2016 when the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative partnered with LUSD to scale personalized learning and support transformative education practices. With additional support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the Bush Foundation of Minnesota, the initiative has prepared LUSD to guide other districts like Eureka City Schools in adopting these innovative models (Lindsay Unified School District).
By learning from LUSD’s extensive experience, ECS is taking significant steps to integrate these proven practices into its own district, ensuring that every student is equipped to succeed in their academic journey and beyond.
