After School Programs
Program News: The Washington After School Program has been busy this Spring with many programs and activities. Students are engaged in homework time each day, with an emphasis on homework completion, as well as helping students progress towards meeting their Accelerated Reading goals. Our City of Eureka Recreation Leaders have developed a slew of fun, interesting and experiential Enrichment Clubs for our students to enjoy. Engaging clubs such as Environmental Education, Sculpture, Science Exploration, Olympics, French Club and Book Making expose students to new concepts and encourage students to try new activities that broaden their interests and skills. The students are really enjoying their clubs!
Special Events: The Washington After School Program is especially excited to further our school’s partnership with the Sequoia Park and Zoo. The Zoo was the recipient of a $3,000 grant from the Save the Redwoods league, and together with about $2,000 in matching funds, will be working in partnership with our afterschool program to provide an Awesome Otter Club, facilitated by Zoo Education staff. The club members will experience and evaluate the Redwood Forest EdVentures curriculum, will evaluate and provide student feedback regarding watershed conservation activities and will help develop and implement formative evaluation tools for the zoo’s new Watershed Heroes exhibit that will be opening in the next two years. This is a very exciting endeavor for the Washington After School Program and the Sequoia Park and Zoo and we are thrilled to be a part of this growing partnership.
Registration Time: Registration for next year’s program is happening now! We are accepting applications for T-K-5th graders. Application forms are due on May 31st. A form went home with each student. If you can’t find yours, they can be downloaded from the ECS website. We are looking forward to another exciting year!
