Welcome Back Letter For Staff
- Published: Friday, August 11, 2017
I hope you had the opportunity for some rest and relaxation during the summer, as well as time to enjoy friends and family. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 23rd, and our students and parents are eager to start the new school year.
To kick off the year, I look forward to seeing each of you at our back-to-school meeting on Monday, August 21st. Upon arrival, please come to the Eureka High School Auditorium Foyer where you will be welcomed by your principal or supervisor. Continental breakfast will be available at 7:30a.m. in the foyer. At 8:00a.m. we will proceed into the auditorium for our meeting. Please see the back of this letter for additional details about staff activities for August 21st and 22nd. These details are also posted on our website and District Facebook page.
As we start the new school year, please welcome the next generation of educators and support staff joining our team. This year, we are focusing on expanding and strengthening communication throughout the District. This includes staff, parents, students and community. Our District Facebook page has nearly 1,000 "likes". Please "like" the Eureka City Schools and your site's Facebook page to keep current on our announcements and events.
The Board of Trustees is excited that we have been actively working to put the Measure S dollars to work. Progress this summer includes Alice Birney and Lafayette parking and student drop off areas, a new pedestrian entrance to Zane to discourage students from darting across West Street, and the green house and shade house at Winship. Many other items on the project list are in plann ing stages - one of particular note is the Eureka High School Gymnasium. We just completed the Environmental Impact Report, and the Board has given direction to build a new gymnasium. We are developing plans now. For a full list of projects and timelines, please click on the Measure S icon on the District website.
In addition to new construction, our staff are meticulously working to prepare our sites for the first day back. I would like to extend a big "thank you" to our teams and the work they have done to ensure our schools are ready - for the upcoming school year! I am certain that you wil l notice their hard work too.
As we get ready to welcome students back, I ask that you commit to make the 2017-18 school year the most successful one yet for our students, families and staff!
Fred Van Vleck, Ed.D.
