Dear Eureka High Families,
Welcome to Eureka High School! I would like to introduce myself. I am Jennifer Johnson, the principal, and I am thrilled to return to EHS, after serving as principal at Washington Elementary for 2.5 years and as the district instructional coach for 1.5 years.
I have been with ECS for 21 years, 16 years as a teacher at the high school in math and EAST (project based service learning class). I am delighted to be working with high school students once again. I am looking forward to helping students and families through their four years at EHS. I thoroughly enjoy interacting with this age student, helping them to set goals and realize their dreams.
ECS schools are implementing the new Common Core State Standards. Teachers in all departments will be fully implementing or supporting the Common Core Standards. The Common Core focuses on developing the critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills students will need to be successful. EHS will be focusing on the ongoing implementation of Constructing Meaning strategies in all classes. CM helps students with critical thinking and the ability to communicate academically, at a level appropriate for college and career. 11th grade students will also be taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment at the end of the year to measure their skills and knowledge of the new standards. This is an exciting time and I encourage you to ask your student about the lessons and projects they are doing in class.
Another focus will be the implementation of restorative practices and PBIS at the high school level. We will collaborate with the two instructional coaches from the district climate grant to train staff and implement both programs.
I look forward to meeting you and working with your student!
