Eligibility for Emergency Teaching Permit:
You may qualify for an Emergency Substitute Teaching Permit if you meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (4-year degree)
  • Have passed the CBEST or meet the California Basic Skills Requirement

Information for Student Teachers

Please note that student teachers must complete all substitute teacher requirements before they are eligible to sub for their mentor teachers.

Become a Certified ECS Super Sub

Substitute educators who complete our ECS Online Super Sub Training and demonstrate instructional competency become eligible for enhanced Super Sub rates. This certification empowers you to lead classrooms with confidence while supporting our district’s mission and commitment to quality, learner-centered education.

2024–2025 Substitute Teacher Compensation

General Daily Rate

  • $150/day or $75/half day

General Long-Term Rate

  • $160/day or $80/half day
    (Effective after the 20th consecutive day in the same assignment)

ECS Retired Teacher Rate

  • $185/day or $92.50/half day

ECS Retired Teacher Long-Term Rate

  • $195/day or $97.50/half day
    (Effective after the 20th consecutive day in the same assignment)

Super Sub Rate

  • $200/day or $100/half day
    (Effective after completion of ECS Super Sub training)

Super Sub Long-Term Rate

  • $210/day or $105/half day
    (Effective after the 20th consecutive day in the same assignment)

Note: To qualify for the Super Sub rate, individuals must complete the required training and demonstrate competency through ECS.
