T he next time you're behind a Eureka school bus, you may notice something different. Eureka City Schools now has the first school bus in Humboldt County to produce no visible emissions from its exhaust pipe. On January 7, Eureka City Schools unveiled the North Coast's first compressed natural gas school bus and refueling station. Dan Pires, Director of Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation, was on hand to answer questions from First District Assemblywoman Virginia Strom-Martin and Third District Supervisor John Woolley. Storm-Martin helped ECS secure a grant for the 84–passenger bus. The alternative–fuel bus replaces one of the district's pre–1977 school buses.
