Interim Assistant Superintendent of Special Services

Grant Principal and English Learner Director Laurie Alexander has accepted the position of Interim Assistant Superintendent of Special Services.  Ms. Alexander will assume some of the duties left by Interim Superintendent Lee Ann Lanning.  These will include Special Education and the supervision of school psychologists and Response to Intervention, the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program, the Student Attendance Review Board (SARB), American’s with Disabilities (504), and district facility projects.  Alexander will also continue with oversight of the English Learner (EL) program and the after school program.

Laurie Alexander has worked for Eureka City Schools for eight years as principal and as Director of EL and has served on the superintendent’s Cabinet for four years.  Lanning believes that Alexander has the ability to successfully direct these programs through the 2011-12 school year.

An interim principal for Grant Elementary School where Ms. Alexander served is still being considered and will be announced at a future date.
