PRECOLLEGE SUMMER INSTITUTES
Precollege Summer Institutes are designed for advanced high school students who wish to gain academically challenging college-level experience. The minimum age requirement is 14 as of September 1. Programs may have additional eligibility requirements. Please visit the program website for more information.
The Art Summer Institute (Session B ONLY), Game Lab Summer Institute, Immersive International Studies Summer Institute, and the Writing Summer Institute: Introduction to College Writing are commuter programs and do not provide housing options for its participants. All other Precollege Summer Institutes including the Art Summer Institute (Session A) offer a mandatory residential plan, which includes supervision.
All applicants and their parent/legal guardians are required to complete a Waiver of Liability (Minor / Adult), a Program Participant Agreement (Residential / Non-Residential), and a Questionnaire in order to participate in Precollege Summer Institutes. Please note that you will be asked to complete all required documents again whenever adding a new program, switching to another program, or re-enrolling in the same program after cancellation.
For those who register before the program payment deadline (5PM, May 1, PDT), a nonrefundable deposit ($400 for international students; $150 for all others) is required to reserve your space in the program. Please be sure of your intention to register as this deposit is NOT refundable. The nonrefundable deposit is not an additional fee and will apply toward your summer balance.
After the payment deadline, full payment of the program fee, including the nonrefundable deposit, is required in order to secure a space in the program. Please note that other additional fees, such as the Document Fee and Instructional Enhancement Initiative (IEI) Fee, may apply and that all additional fees must be paid on MyUCLA after payment of the program fee.
For programs that require instructor consent for admission or are waitlisted, no payment is due until admission is given or a space becomes available for you from the waitlist.
If you are not ready to pay at the time of registration submission, you can later retrieve the registration form to make the required payment. Once a valid payment is made, your registration is complete and your spot will be reserved.
Payment can be made by credit card or electronic check using the secure CASHNet SmartPay system. All credit card transactions made through CASHNet SmartPay are subject to a nonrefundable 2.75% service fee. There is no transaction fee for electronic check payments.
FEES AND PAYMENT DEADLINES
Fees for Summer Institutes vary by program and student status, among other factors. All applicants must review the applicable program website for information on fees, payment and refund policies and procedures.
If registered before the payment deadline, your remaining balance reflecting the nonrefundable deposit must be paid in full through MyUCLA by 5PM, May 1, PDT. After 5PM, May 1 (PDT), applicants are prompted to pay the program fee to register. After registration, students must check the BruinBill account and pay the remaining balance on MyUCLA. Delinquency in payment of other applicable fees may result in enrollment cancellations, holds on academic records, and/or collection actions.
