Medical Billing and Coding

This combined 80 hour billing and coding course offers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims (using CPT and ICD-10 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. This course covers the following areas: CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation and Management), specialty fields (such as surgery, radiology and laboratory), ICD-10 (Introduction and Guidelines) and basic processes for medical insurance and third party reimbursements. Students will learn how to find the service and codes using manuals: CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS. After obtaining the practical work experience (6 months - 2 years), students who complete this course could be qualified to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders - Certified Professional Coder Exam, American Health Information Association Certified Coding Associate exam or other national certification exams.

This one-day injections training is for those who are employed, or seeking employment, in a medical office setting and will be working under the supervision of a physician. It meets the standards and qualifications established by the Division of Allied Health Professionals, Board of Medical Quality Assurance, and State of California.

Course Objectives:

  • Know Universal Precautions

  • Know the Injection sites

  • How to administer a Subcutaneous, Intramuscular, Intradermal injection

  • How to calculate drug dosage correctly

  • Know the anatomy of the veins

  • How to successfully draw blood from a patient

  • Know the possible complications of drawing blood

  • Be able to do capillary puncture in checking blood glucose

    Instructor: Viane Frye 

    This class is designed to prepare the student to start and superimpose intravenous fluids. The content will include types of fluids and devices rationales for therapies, safety factors, complications, monitoring and preparation of site, patient and equipment. It will also include supervised practice of the technique of venipuncture on mannequins and fellow classmates.  Students will successfully start 3 IVs on fellow classmates. The course fulfills the requirements of (and is approved by) the California State Board of Nursing for IV Certification for LVNs. Fee includes all materials and equipment.
