Outline of Proposed Work & Improvements

Upon passage of Measure S, the Eureka City Schools will minimally be able to complete the following school facilities projects within the District;

Winzler Children's Center

  • Remove and replace the playground apparatus to meet the latest safety requirements and to enhance the activity area for the students.
  • Add a teaching wall in each classroom to promote more effective and efficient instruction.

Alice Birney Elementary School

  • Construct a new student/parent drop off to create an area for students to safely arrive at school and be picked up at the end of the day.
  • Construct a new bus loading and unloading area for students to safely arrive at school and be picked up at the end of the day.
  • Make alterations to the parent and community reception area and nurses office to enhance the ability of the office staff to better assist parents, students and the community while increasing the level of security onto and off of the campus during the school day.
  • Modernize the Boys and Girls restrooms to make them fully accessible to students, upgrade the plumbing, and improve the appearance and circulation to and within the restrooms.
  • Construct a new three classroom building addition on the campus to replace two 54-year–old, aging and deteriorating, portable classrooms that would be removed from the front of the school and one 23-year-old portable that was removed in 2012.
  • Add a teaching wall in each classroom to promote more effective and efficient instruction.
  • Add technology upgrades throughout the school site to provide eight computer outlets for student use in each classroom, a computer outlet for the teacher and an LCD projection system to improve the educational environment for the students and teachers. To enhance safety, add a new public address system and class bell system campus wide. Add Wi-Fi for future of classroom instruction.

Grant Elementary School

Winship Middle School

  • Remodel a classroom to create a Career and Technical Education classroom.
  • Make improvements to the science lab classrooms to improve the teaching and learning environment.
  • Add a teaching wall in each classroom to promote more effective and efficient instruction.
  • Add technology upgrades throughout the school site to provide eight computer outlets for student use in each classroom, a computer outlet for the teacher and an LCD projection system to improve the educational environment for the students and teachers.   • Install security cameras throughout the campus to improve the safety on the school site.
  • Make dry rot repairs to the exterior walls of the Gymnasium.

Zane Middle School

  • Remodel a classroom to create a Career and Technical Education classroom.
  • Make improvements to the science lab classrooms to improve the teaching and learning environment.
  • Add a teaching wall in each classroom to promote more effective and efficient instruction.
  • Add technology upgrades throughout the school site to provide eight computer outlets for student use in each classroom, a computer outlet for the teacher and an LCD projection system to improve the educational environment for the students and teachers.   • Install security cameras throughout the campus to improve the safety on the school site.
  • Reconfigure the lower street entrance on ‘S’ Street to improve the level of safety for students walking to and home from school.

Eureka High School

  • Modernize the Band Building, which has not been modernized since its construction in 1939, to improve the learning environment. Upgrade the path of travel to the band room, remodel the restrooms to make them fully accessible, upgrade plumbing, improve appearance and circulation; replace the lighting and improve the acoustics within the band room.
  • Remove the two, aging and deteriorating Agricultural portable classrooms and construct a new two classroom building to improve the educational environment for this Career and Technical Education program.
  • Remodel the Auto Shop to improve the instructional environment for students, upgrade the restrooms for accessibility to meet current code requirements, including separate restrooms for both boys and girls.
  • Modernize the Agricultural Shop to improve the instructional environment for students and upgrade the restrooms for accessibility to meet current code requirements, including modernizing the classroom inside of the Agricultural Shop.
  • Modernize the Science Building to provide up-to-date facilities for top level science instruction, to improve each classroom, remodel the restrooms to upgrade and make accessible. Remodel classrooms to create two Career and Technical Education classrooms.
  • Remodel the Gymnasium; make alterations to the Foyer to improve accessibility, lighting and circulation. Replace the old electrical panels. Replace the old domestic water piping that is rusting and deteriorating within the building.
  • Make alterations and improvements to the ancillary buildings attached to the Gymnasium to create activity areas to be used for physical education classes.
  • Within the Main Classroom Building replace leaking exterior windows, improving their energy efficiency. Replace the old electrical panels. Repair the controls for the heating units within each classroom in order to be able to regulate the temperature and outside air flow.
  • Install security cameras throughout the campus to improve safety on the school site.

Lincoln Campus

  • Make the necessary alterations to the multipurpose room and kitchen area for these areas to be use by the students, teachers and community; including the Culinary Arts Career and Technical Program.
  • Complete the second phase of the modernization to the classrooms on this campus, which have not been modernized since their construction in 1955, so the remaining instructional spaces will be upgraded to meet the district standards for classrooms.
  • Add a teaching wall in each classroom to promote more effective and efficient instruction.
