Family Welcome Back Letter
- Published: Tuesday, August 20, 2013
Dear Washington Families,
On behalf of the entire Washington Elementary staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2013-14 school year. This year we are looking forward to several new staff members, both teachers and support staff. The beginning of the school year is an exciting time for students and our staff is looking forward to working with each family. Our mission statement is:
Washington Elementary School, rich in family involvement and academic excellence, will prepare and inspire each child to become a self-assured contributor to a global society, instilling a love of learning, by providing an innovative, well-balanced educational experience in a safe and nurturing environment.
Washington School has a proud tradition of academic excellence, coupled with many opportunities for creativity, exploration, and discovery. As the Washington Otters, we are proud to have an official partnership with the Sequoia Park Zoo.
I am enthusiastic that we are making the transition to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and will be teaching science and social science through the lens of the informational text, writing, and listening and speaking standards. Along with the CCSS implementation, we will also be starting Second Step, a social skills program, school wide to help support our Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS).
Many great things happen at our school through family and community collaboration. If you would like to be involved at Washington, please consider volunteering or attending one or more of our parent group meetings: Parent Teacher Association (PTA), English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC), and School Site Council (SSC). Dates and times are listed on our website calendar and in the newsletter. Many individuals also volunteer to help in the classroom and other ways here at school. I encourage you to fill out a volunteer packet during the year which is available in our school office. Your involvement makes a tremendous positive difference for students and our school.
With kind regards,
Washington School Principal
