I trust that this summer has left you rested and ready to come back for the 2013-14 school year and, for those that worked all summer, ready to see the students return to school. Ready or not, the first day of school is once again approaching. Personally, I get inspired watching the excitement in the students as they greet the new school year on the first day.
Our technology team has been diligently working to prepare the newly purchased 500 plus computers (including new computers for teachers) and our new Google Cloud platform for the first day. I am particularly pleased how smoothly the transition has gone. There will be a learning curve, just as I experienced, but the benefits of the new platform will make the learning curve worth it.
I am certain that you will notice the hard work of our maintenance, custodial and grounds crews as we continue to improve the appearance of our schools. Our schools are progressing well. Lincoln and Winship are almost ready for students. It is exciting to watch the progress we are making with our facilities toward a goal of making all our schools look great.
This year, we will be focusing on the implementation of the newly adopted instructional norms. Thank you to all of the teachers that worked so hard developing these! This new focus will include instructional visits to each of our sites this fall. The visits will focus on the instructional norm(s) that each site has chosen. More information on this will be provided at our back-to-school orientation.
I invite each of you to our back-to-school orientation on August 20th where I look forward to greeting you and sharing the vision for the future and reflecting on the past year for Eureka City Schools. We will be starting at 7:45 a.m. serving a continental breakfast in the Eureka High School Cafeteria, just as we did last year. We will then proceed to the auditorium for our meeting starting at 8:15 a.m. Please come to the cafeteria first where your principal or supervisor will greet and check you in.
Enjoy the rest of your time before the commencement of the 2013-14 year. I will see each of you on August 20th where I will share more details about the upcoming school year.
