Welcome to Humboldt Bay High School

Humboldt Bay High School (HBHS) is an opportunity school with an emphasis on credit recovery. When a student gets back on track they can transfer to our partnership school, Eureka High School, and graduate. Students can also choose to finish at HBHS and participate in one the most intimate graduations on the North Coast. Students receive instruction in a standards-based curriculum from experienced teachers, who are supported by a caring office staff. While emphasis and focus is on academic achievement, those with special talents or interests have access to the impressive group of elective choices at Eureka High School.

With a combination of small class size and sheltered atmosphere, students often begin to feel a sense of family while attending HBHS. Our teachers are constantly visited by former students who continue to show a strong and continued attachment to their time spent at Humboldt Bay.

Challenges in the coming year include reevaluating our program to ensure we are meeting the needs of our ever changing school population and providing a learning experience that will prepare our students for life after high school.

Major Achievements:

  • HBHS continues to have a high rate of success for students taking the California State Exit Exam. All of last year’s seniors passed both the Language Arts and Mathematics portions of the CAHSEE.
  • We recognize students quarterly for both academic achievement and outstanding attendance. In addition the community provides numerous opportunities throughout the school year, for HBHS to identify and honor those who have had a positive impact on and away from campus. Our students annually take an active role in Challenge Day and take pride in being role models for the underclassmen.
  • We take all students to visit local community and state colleges and encourage them to attend college after high school graduation.

Focus for Improvement:

  • Coordinate the junior and senior year electives, to give students the opportunity to develop skills that will assist them in being successful no matter what life choices they make after high school.
  • Improve contacts within the community to enhance our students’ opportunities for service learning, job interviews, job shadowing and future employment.
  • Work with Eureka High School to involve our students with the Senior Projects Program, helping them identify and explore their passions and curiosities.

Parents and community members are encouraged to be involved with staff and students and participate informally and formally to support the school and its mission. Please come visit us; we would love to show you around. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate call.
