Goals for the project:

Our project will create emergency information cards that will be given to the parents Eureka City Schools children that tells the parents where their child will be in case of a disaster, as well as who to call and where to go. We will also be giving each student in the 4th and 6th grade emergency cards telling them were to go, who to call if an emergency happens at school or if an emergency happens outside of the school day.

We are also using the technology in the EAST Lab to translate CERT brochure’s into a common readable format and make the brochure web ready, and maybe even translate the brochure into different languages.

We will also continue a project on mapping Emergency Shelter locations. On this map, we will show the square footage of the shelter, make the shelter easier to find with clear directions so evacuees can get to the shelter quicker. We are also going to map the local CERT groups.

We also have projects that will focus on violence prevention, multiculturalism, domestic violence, Youth Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society and the prevention of road racing by teens.

The culminating event will be a “Own Your Own Community” conference in the spring, with activities and information for 4th and 6th graders and the community.
